Redneck County

Well... this months tapeswap is for Kane... Kane is a man that loves his rock (and I believe he is something of a redneck) so in his honour I present... REDNECK COUNTY
I decided to hand draw this months cover, not being much for originality I just copied the style of that guy that does all those shithouse posters for the Lansdowne.

01) Redneck County – Radio Promo

Silly radio trailer for a movie that sounds like what Dukes Of Hazzard could have been if they hadn’t involved world class a-holes like Johnny Spazzville and Sean William Dicksucker and just filmed a bunch of inbreds drinkin moonshine and making out with their sisters.

02) Fear – I Love Living In The City
Notoriously politically incorrect punk band give us a little slice of urban life… “people puking everywhere, piles of blood, scabs, and hair… bodies wasted and disease… young people dieing on the streets”! You know ... feel good music.

03) The Germs – Lexicon Devil
Another legendary US punk band lead by the absolute epitome of white-trash Darby Crash. If you aint been introduced to the intoxicated world of Darby Crash check out the following video (this is a crack-up)….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_FKO4Y7u_w

04) The Didjits – Evilized
More punk rock from The Didjits, this is from their 1993 album Que Sirhan Sirhan.

05) Alice Cooper – Elected
I recently heard this song again in some documentary… for the life of me I can’t remember what it was… I think it was Inside Deep Throat or something about Nixon… the point is I remembered how cool this song was. I liked it.

06) Faxed Head – Don’t Turn Out Like Me
Wow! A group of teenagers who have been left crippled due to unsuccessful suicide attempts playing in a metal/noise band. A wheelchair bound singer who stage dives into crowds...... Too bad it was really all a prank by comedian Neil Hamburger and Mr Bungle’s Trey Spruance. Still they did three albums and even toured here ... it’s weird, it rocks and it’s really fucking noisey.

07) Black Sabbath – Symptom Of The Universe
Pure Ozzy action here, none of that Dio crap… This is probably my favourite Sabbath song … or maybe it's War Pigs…

08) Roky Erickson – Click Your Fingers Applauding The Play

Another song from the man who legally declared himself not a member of the human race but an alien from another planet…

09) The Dwarves – We Must Have Blood
More punk rock from the 1997 album The Dwarves Are Young and Good Looking…

10) Jello Biafra And The Melvins – Kali-Fornia Uber Alles 2005 (LIVE)
An updated version of the punk classic with all new lyrics about Governor Schwarzenegger.
i am governor schwarzenneger
pretty soon i'll be dictator
when they make me president
democracy is going away
hasta la vista, baby
i will command all of you
kindergarten cop in every school
or i vill terminate you

11) Gluecifer – God’s Chosen Dealer
Norwegian rock’n’roll from the album Head to Head Boredom (1999)… this track kicks major fucking arse…
HILLBILLY INTERLUDE……….

12) Little Whorehouse On The Prairie – Radio Promo
Just a silly ad for a hillbilly porno movie…yee-ha

13) Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs – Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Banjo picking craziness, would make great chase music for a scene where some moonshiners are outrunning the law….

14) Hasil Adkins- She Said
Hailing from Boone County, West Virginia, Hasil is something of a legend. Hasil set to learning how to play drums and guitar at the same time in 1939. At the time of his death last year he had written over 7000 songs (many on the subject of chicken and his own dance The Hunch) and memorised another 2000 covers still performing live as a one man band and playing the weirdest, most-demented country and rockabilly the world has ever heard. Interview and live footage of Hasil

15) Bill Long – What A Waste Of Good Corn Licker
Another hillbilly number… a rednecks girlfriend drowns in a vat of corn liquor… hence the title

16) Roy Clark & Buck Owens - Duelling Banjos
This song always reminds me of my loss of innocence during that canoeing trip with Burt Reynolds…

17) The Hillbilly Hooker – Radio Promo
Another hillbilly porno trailer about a 14-year old prostitute… OMG!
HILLBILLY INTERLUDE ENDS HERE….

18) The Misfits – Teenagers From Mars
Danzig-era Misfits… is anything else worth listening too????

19) Blood Duster – Porn Store Stiffi
Aussie grind-core… the title of the song says it all really…

20) Entombed – Rotten Soil
Swedish metal from the 1993 album Wolverine Blues… I saw these guys when they toured… it was awesome… very fucking heavy!

21) The Pod People – Filling The Void
Aussie Doom Metal band from the 2001 album Doom Saloon…also very heavy!

22) Messer Chups – Sex Euro And Evil Pops
After all that death-metal-grind-core-doom-rock this should be a little less agro. These guys are an electro-surf-experimental band from Russia. Well worth checking out!

23) The Supersuckers – Born With A Tail
From the album “How The Supersuckers Became The Greatest Rock N Roll Band In The World”… Quite a claim but anyone familiar with this record knows how much it fucking rocks.

24) Balzac – Zennou Naru Musuu No Me Shi Wo Yubisayu
I don’t think that’s the exact spelling but my Japanese aint so hot. Apparently this style of music is known as zombie-core!

25) Beatallica – And I’m Evil
These guys like to play Beatles parodies in the style of speed-metal legends Metallica. The singer sounds a lot like James Hetfield which helps. This song is a parody of The Beatles “And I love her”, Metallica’s version of “Am I Evil” and thrown in for good measure The Misfit’s “Die Die Die My Darling” including a hilarious parody of operatic midget Glenn Danzig. All of the bands songs are available for free here…http://www.beatallica.org/

26) Turbonegro – Self Destructo Bust
Norwegian punk rockers that look like they stepped out of Freddie Mercury’s wet dreams… denim suits, lipstick, handlebar moustaches and sailor hats… don’t let their appearance fool you these guys know how to rock’n’roll. From the album "Apocalypse Dudes"... here is a clip of another song "Get It On"

27) Good Clean Fun – (It’s Fun To Be A Vampire) Except For All The Goths
Straight-edgers with a sense of humour? What’s next? Emo Christmas albums???

28) Nashville Pussy – Go Motherfucker Go!

Dirty rock’n’rollers who sing about drinking, fighting and sexing. From the album “Let Them Eat Pussy”… These guys are definite rednecks.

29) The Dillinger Escape Plan and Mike Patton – Come To Daddy
Mathcore nerds team up with Patton for a rocking cover of Aphex Twin’s classic. This must have been pretty hard to pull off but sounds great. From the EP “Irony is a Dead Scene”.

Container

1) "To be by your side" by Nick Cave

Who would have thought Nick Cave would be providing his voice to a documentary about migrating birds? Well he did for 'Traveling birds' and it sounds great especially with the added bird noises on this version. So sad and wistful this one.

2) "Fistfull of Love" by Antony and the Johnsons

This album was voted the Gayest Album ever by Joy FM.... I concur. Lou Reed adds a touching prologue. A song about S&M never sounded sweeter. Thankyou Antony.

3) "He War" by Cat Power

I remember hearing this song in the middle of the night after doing some late night darkroom printing. It seemed to sum up the melancholy I had for leaving Melbourne behind. Can't hear it without thinking about those sad months, small boy - big city.

4) "Breath me" (Fourtet Remix) by Sia

The finale of 'Six Feet Under' featured this track, the original that is. Fourtet strips the sucker back and puts a hypnotic metronome in to counterpoint the breathy vocal. I still have the goosebumps. Watch on YouTube

5) "Chicago" by Sufjan Stephens

More woos rock I know but this guy puts the epic into folk and puts goose bumps on the ones that Sia gave me.
Here's a YouTube clip of some kids doing an a capella version
Watch on YouTube

6) "Crazy" by Pylon

Athens GA rockers dug out of obscurity thanks to REM who covered this song on Dead letter Office way back in the day. I prefer this than the cover version hope you do to.

7) "Turn a square" by The Shins

Was it my buddy Paul or perhaps the movie 'Garden State' that introduced me to these cool folk rockers. Makes me feel good anyhoo.

8) "Twice around (featuring Jean Gray)" by Herbalizer

This English hip hopper can really soul it up does some cool collaborations. Good with a pint or a kilo of coke snorted off a hookers bum.

9) "Cross eyed and painless" by Talking Heads

Brian Eno funks up talkiing heads by wedging in a fuckload of cowbell and percussion. I played this on the tram this morning and had to bite my lip so I wouldn't spontaneously dance in an epileptic way. Needles to say my lip is sore now.
This YouTube clip features the clip that Toni Basil directed:

10) "Apply some pressure" by Maximo Park

These English rock dudes are so bratty, I like singing along to this one in the car on the way to work, makes me want to swerve and hit pedestrians for some reason.
Watch on YouTube

11) "I changed my mind" by Quannum

I first saw this clip on Rage, blew my mind. 2 years later I went to a forum by Shynola who directed it. The vocal is by Lyrics Born who has such a free conversational vocal that is just so damn groovy my pants hurt.
Watch on YouTube

12) "I wanna be adored (rabbit in the moon remix)" by Stone Roses

This comes for the stone roses remix album. Tres groovy ambient remix of this big 90s hit. Personal trivia: My girlfriend thought the chorus went ' I wanna be a DOG'.
Watch on YouTube

13) "Pista" by Ojos De Brujo

Awesome Spanish rockers who mix gypsy, world and hip hop effortlessly. This is from their website to promote their new album Techari. Their debut Bari is also awesome. Awesome.

14) "Ces Bottes sont faites pour marcher ( these boots are made for walking)" by Eileen

I love the Nancy Sinatra version but this takes it to another level of camp. Now where's my pink boa.....oh yeh, there it is.

This YouTube clip features some great dance moves.

Snakes On a Blog

OK, the ugly side of Tape Swap is emerging.
As official administrator, I feel I should make a couple of comments.

Tape Swap is now in it's fourth cycle, and has mostly been a most excellent adventure for those involved.

But, as has been illustrated by the previous post, some people haven't been keeping up their end of the deal.
If you can't do it, don't.
If you have already commited yourself to it, and a problem arises, just email me. I am not THAT scary, and it will also give me the option of finding someone else to complete the swap.

Another issue is comments. It's great how involved everyone is getting, and far be it for me to censor you fuckers, since it's your blog too, but lets keep it friendly. This is meant to be a good experience, not a bitch fest.
Actually, nothing that bad has happened yet, let's keep it that way.

Thanks to everyone who is playing well. Tape Swap is proving to be mostly radness!

Snakes In The Grass....

I can't believe I got jacked. I never got my tape... and apparently I am not the only one... this simply will not do...
To anyone who is new and even considering doing this TS biz, you have to make the commitment and follow through. there is NO excuse ... NONE... ZERO... unless you die (and even then I will spit on your tomb)... it isn't that fucking hard really is it???... all you do is burn a stupid disc and put it in the mail!
No Excuses! NONE!!!!
If you agree to do something you do it!
To anyone who didn't send their tapes out, you are a fucking jerk!

Sorry I Got Fat N Drank All Your Beer

Sorry I Got Fat 'N Drank All Your Beer. For Stuart From Wiz

As you can see I have been slack and not posted any of my previous Tape Swap extravaganzas on this esteemed blog. It took the challenge of STUART to coax my little nose out...and here I am. Hi.

On a general note, can I just say, you guys are doing an awesome job!
Tape Swap would obviously be nothing without you, so YAY! Thanks for making it so entertaining.

OK lets get down to it...

1. After Hours - The Velvet Underground.
Has anyone heard of this band? Some guy called Lou Reed sings for them. I think they're on Britneys label.
Bwa haha.

But really, this song sums up how I felt when I lived in a horrid little unit in Ryde during my late teens. Sad.

2. Can Your Pussy Do The Dog? - The Cramps.
What a sexy band! Makes me wanna put on big boots and suck face.

3. Punk Rock Girl - The Dead Milkman.
I used to pretend this song was written about me. Then I remembered I was just a convent educated lass with great hair and no ambition.

Go here for the SUPERCUTE film clip. I LOVE BOYS!!!!!

4. Leader Of The Pack - The Shangris Las
I always wanted to be in a band like this. Who doesn't want to pash of the leader off the pack. He rides a ducati you know.

5. Folsom Prison Blues (live) - Johnny Cash

Oh wow, how good is this live album? I love the man in black! He looks especially hot when he is Joaquin.
This is one of my favourite live albums of all time. The convicts cheering in the background are awesome!
Check out some footage here.

6. Dancing Barefoot - Patti Smith

Patti was a very exciting discovery for me. This song rocks. Did the Celibate Rifles do a cover of this?
"Oh god I fell for you". Loves it.

7. Two Doors Down - Dolly Parton

Dolly is my one true love. I think this songs great. She's all sad 'cause she got dumped and her neighbours are boozing it up. By the second verse, she's picked up a hottie and by the third verse she's rooting him in her unit.
Love a girl who can bounce back!

If you don't love Dolly now, you will after you see this AMAZING clip of her singing Two Doors Down. The tagline on the site says "THE GREAT DOLLY FROM A EARLY 80'S VARIETY SPECIAL, `THE AUDIENCE LOOKS LIKE THEY WANDERED IN FROM A "CURE" CONCERT!"
Truly HILARIOUS!
She is soooo cute. She reminds me of Miss Piggy, in a good way.

8. If I'm In Luck I Might Get Picked Up - Betty Davis

This is classic sexy funk. If you like da funk, you will love this woman! She is fantastic..."Started wiggling my fanny..."

9. Cherry Bomb - The Runaways

What self respecting lady doesn't love this song. Bad girls rool.
I wish I was a teenager again, so I could kick my dad in the balls and run away wearing nothing but a g.string.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the clip here.

10. Modelling Sucks - Handsome Boy Modelling School

"I am a male model, not a male prostitute.....they made me take off my top"

11. Trash From Sydney City - Sydney City Trash

My favourite live act in Sydney. The lads who took the 'o' out of 'country'.
Fuck yeah!
Go to their website and find out when their next gig is. And don't be a fucktard... BUY THE ALBUM!

12. I Want It All - Veruca Salt from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Sorry Stuart, I forgot you have kids, so have probably seen this movie a million times. I just wanna slap that little Veruca slut across her smug little face, but I agree with her life philosophy..."give it to me...NOW!"

13. Let's Pretend We're Bunny Rabbits - Magnetic Fields

A great song about rooting all day...like bunny rabbits. It's got a nice sort of Beach Boys sound. Check out their triple album 69 Love Songs.

14. Orgasm Addict - Buzzcocks

The Buzzcocks are one of my favourite bands. This song is tops. The other day I had this toon in my head and kept singing it at my parents house, much to their delight.

15. Reject All America - Bikini Kill

Thank you Bikini Kill for ripping me out of my debilitating teen angst phase...you RAWK!
Kathleen Hanna ain't everyone's cup of tea, but she's mine.
I saw them at sydney uni back in the day, and she made all the tall boys move back so I could see.

Here's a clip of them singing Suck My Left One live.

16. Girl Fight Tonight - ME (lil wiz)

All of my Tape Swap partners get this toon. Obviously the best song ever recorded. Kudos to Mitch who made it happen. If you desperately wanna hear it, go to it's own special Myspace place.

17. The Girls Attractive - Diamond Nights

Well I am. Heeeeee. Nice bit of Billy Idol sounding pop rock.

18. Sexy Results - Death From Above 1979

Mel introduced me to this band back in TS round one. I love them. This song is sexy, and its called sexy results. Kaching! Something modern for the kids.

19. Intimate Secretary - The Raconteurs

Jack Whites OTHER band. The whole album is really good. I wouldn't lie. It really is. This is my fave toon off it at the moment.

20. Still Wasted From The Party Last Night - Liam Lynch

Yes, he's the United States Of Whatever dude, but he is SOOO much more. Hows Jack Black Collaborator strike ya? He's funny, and I would marry him if he was fatter. (like my true fiancee JB)
Here is some liam hilarity.

21. Naked Pictures (of your mother) - Electric Six

You can't stop me 'cause this is my favourite band at the moment so up yours grandpa!
Just AWESOME. Is this my favourite song? Maybe. I won't tell you.

22. All Grown Up - Gore Gore Girls

A big hairy man I know found these gals on the strength of their name. Garage pop chicklets singing about staying out late and wearing hair up high and dating boys....bup baa baddup ba ba.

23. Bringing Back The Balls To Rock - Lordi

Thank god Lordi won Eurovision, otherwise I may have never found them. They RAWK. Monster rock is good rock..."hail in the name of rock n roll"!

24. Who's Got The Crack? - The Moldy Peaches.

These guys are a low-fi group who sing funny songs about porn and skinning rich kids. I thought I'd end with this one, so next time I see Stuart he will come straight up to me with a well packed crack pipe and a silly grin on his stoopid face.

And guess what!? Here's a video of 'em singing WHO'S GOT THE CRACK?
