One Teaspoon of Fashion Buyer Paints the Town Shite

Okey Dokey
Another month another mixed tape.
This one is quite different from the last one I made, a slightly harder approach, in a way less funk more punk. Still there are some absurdities and novelty tracks but it's a darker mix that's for sure. Hopefully Trev will enjoy some of the tracks here.

Oh, I have had fun putting this mix together and have provided you with a little multimedia presentation of sorts, I have linked to you-tube videos where possible (as you could imagine some of these songs don't have 'em)... I also should note that I mised this collection a few weeks back when I originally wrote this post but only could be fucked sending the cd today...

The Front cover:

The Back Cover:

01) Lon Chaney Jr – Spider Baby

Legendary horror actor Chaney provided a rather weird theme song for the bizarre film “Spider Baby” aka “The Maddest Story Ever Told” aka “The Liver Eaters” aka “Cannibal Orgy”. The movie’s like a cross between “The Addams Family”, “Night Of The Living Dead” and “Eraserhead” if you can imagine that. The song was covered by Fantomas recently but this version is slightly more weird and goofy. This is the link to the trailer for the movie:

02) Geto Boys – Chuckie
Texas’ answer to NWA, slightly more psychotic and raw. This track features Bushwick Bill, a rapping dwarf taking on the ego of Chuckie the killer doll. Bill was hardcore, he appears on the cover of this record lying in a hospital bed with a very real bullet hole in his eye. Awesome!

03) Steel Pole Bath Tub – The 500 Club
Sludgy, noisy rock band from 1990’s Seattle, they scored a major label deal during the frenzy of acts signed after the success of Nirvana. They were dropped after submitting a demo for a 2nd album composed entirely of songs by The Cars. Now that’s funny! Also on the CD I put the wrong song title... sorry Trev for any confusion, but I'm sure you don't give s crap.

04) 13th Floor Elevators – You’re Gonna Miss Me
60’s psychadelic band with a notorious drug habit, fronted by Roky Erickson prior to his stint in the loony bin. This is their most popular song and features some great electric jug playing. Here is a rare TV performance of the song:

05) Dead Boys – Sonic Reducer
An early punk band on the NYC scene, largely responsible for the violent punk image and sound we associate with the genre today. From the album “Young Loud & Snotty”. Here’s a live video of the song from 1977
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmVCdPe2_Ao

06) Frank Zappa – My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama
From the album “Weasels Ripped My Flesh”, this track is one of Zappa’s more hard rock efforts still there is room for some bizarre instrumental sections and lyrics about being disrespected by your girls’ suburban parents for having long hair.

Here’s a funny video with Zappa arguing against censorship of rock record with some stuffy guys in suits on CNN: “I tell you what, kiss my ass, how do you like that?” he he he…

07) Fear – I don’t care about you
Another punk band with a bad reputation. Lead by madman Lee Ving and from the album simply called “The Record”. John Belushi’s favourite band, he even scored them a guest spot on Saturday Night Live that ended in disaster when a bunch of punks rushed the stage to the chant “New York Sucks” and the TV execs shut the whole thing down. Punk was banned from the show for a long time.

08) Deadbolt – Crime Scene
Surf Rock and Psychobilly band performing a song about crime scene investigations that graphically details all manner of violent and weird crimes. Cool!

09) Butthole Surfers – Dust Devil
From the album “Independent Worm Saloon”, this song fucking rocks. One of the most rocking songs ever … if you don’t believe me watch the video...

10) Mojo Nixon – Drunk Divorced Floozie (The Ballad Of Diana Spencer)
Mojo was never considered subtle....

“She was a drunk divorced floozie
Gallivanting in France
She died in the backseat
Unzipping Dodis' pants
A buncha non-working rich pigs
So camera shy
They got drunk, drove fast and proceeded to die”

11) Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Electricity
What a great song, it’s weird, very weird. Strained vocals and bizarre structure. From the album “Safe As Milk”. This is much better than the Sonic Youth version.

12) Revolting Cocks – Crackin Up
Industrial meets Disco with lots of samples and lyrics about the negative side of taking crack. It’s soooo sleazy. Vocal style reminiscent of PIL.
Here’s the video (can anyone say too much LSD?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0puJ9rB42t8

13) Perrey & Kingsley – Swan’s Splashdown
These dudes were pioneers in making electronic music popular. This track from 1966’s “In Sound From Way Out!” is a reworking of “Swan Lake” featuring crazy (zany) effects and classic lounge style.

14) Aphex Twin – Pac-Man
That scary man reworks sound effects from the PacMan video game into a manic dance track.

15) The Dickies – You Drive Me Ape (You Big Gorilla)
Silly punk number from the late 1970’s LA band. Can anyone understand a single word of this song? No video for this song, but here’s one for their version of “Banana Splits”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=javeuX8LziE

16) I Am A Groupie – Original Radio Trailer
A radio ad for the movie “I Am A Groupie”. That’s all. I thought it was funny…

17) Cathedral – Hopkins The Witchfinder General
Great song from the stoner rock/doom Sabbath-inspired band featuring samples of Vincent Price.
Here’s the awesome music video (so Spinal tap it hurts really):

18) The Dwarves – Runaway #2
These guys are scumbags, vile human beings. I love them. This song about runaway teens is off their album “The Dwarves Must Die” (2004). Obscene lyrics like “Suzie smeared her lipstick, it tastes like daddy's cum. Johnny's in the back room getting sucked off by his mom” and Ramones styled pop make this one a winner.

There’s no video for this song but here’s one for another Dwarves song featuring much blood, naked orgies, the Suicide Girls and even singer Blag Dahlia making out with a midget.

19) Sleepy Time Gorilla Museum - The Donkey-Headed Adversary Of Humanity Opens The Discussion
An award for longest song title on my mix. Think industrial metal meets The Residents. Odd.

20) Lalo Schiffrin – Theme To Enter The Dragon
Theme music for the Bruce Lee movie, very funky with kung-fu fightin’ sound effects.

21) Lard – 70’s Rock Must Die
Alien Jourgenson of Ministry and Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys team-up yet again to poke fun at seventies stadium rock and it’s fans. Sounds like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult etc… with the Johnny Rotten meets Woody Woodpecker vocals of Biafra. There’s even plenty of cowbell…
